Well if you have not seen the smiling faces looking down from lamposts or looking straight at you as you drive in your car you are not in Ireland.
Looking at the faces of the young and not so young candidates I cannot help asking myself why do these people think they could run a country? What is their life experiences? What with the gathering economic storms that are brewing up across the world and all the talk of economic slump, even if we try to keep our own economy on track these storms will play a significant role in all our futures.
Added to these is the refugee crisis not to mention our own housing crisis and the thousands of people in negative equity, the health service with all its problems. I could go on but looking at the faces I ask myself who is capable of leading our country? I think of the Apostle Paul as he was evangelising Europe, he cried out” Who is sufficient for these things?” Then he went on to say his sufficiency was from God. Now if Paul the Apostle who was an extraordinary man cried out to God for help how much more is the need of the smiling faces on the posters.
Do they think they are capable in and of themselves to guide and govern us? More the pity them. These men and women need help that is greater than themselves.
I know who we all should vote for but He is not running in the election. He will not make promises that He cannot keep. There are no skeletons in His cupboard. He is not doing it for the fame or fortune. He was willing to suffer for those who call on Him. In fact He has proven how much He wants our confidence by living in obscurity, travelling widely, doing good wherever He went, eventually dying on a Roman cross to demonstrate what He was willing to do for us. Do you know who I am talking about? Yes, it is Jesus Christ. You may say I know all about Him I learnt it as a child. Yes, but have you put your complete confidence in Him to rescue you from judgment and love you while you live and bring you to His home when you die?
We all know a lot about the policies and views of the smiling faces on the posters but we have to trust one of them and give them a vote of confidence. People know a lot about Jesus but do they trust in Him completely. Do you? Why wait? Call to Him now.
